Week #57 - Esperanza

Hola todos!!

We are SUPER excited for Fernando this week who will be baptized on Saturday. We taught him the word of wisdom and the law of chastity... he made some pretty funny comments but it only confirmed his readiness to be baptized... we were talking about modesty and he goes, ¨Wow it is so true... Sometimes there are people walking in the street with their super short skirts and I´m all. ¨Te compro tela??¨ He was dead serious, and we tried not to die laughing during the appointment. Funny kid. He told us this week his friend saw him reading his Book of Mormon on the bus and is super interested in the church!! I invite you all to take a Book of Mormon with you wherever you go, and promise that when you do it, the Lord will give you countless missionary opportunities! We set the goal a month or so ago to ALWAYS have a Book of Mormon in our hands when we contact, and have seen so many miracles from it.

Just yesterday while knocking on doors, we met a man named Luis who has suffered with an addiction to alcohol. He said he wasn´t going to answer the door when we knocked, but felt something tell him to do it. He told us he was ready and willing to leave his past life behind because he felt regret and remorse every time he drank, and He COMMITTED to God that He would change...I learned a lot about commitment this week. The Lord is able to manifest His power so much more when we commit ourselves to being instruments in His hands. Luis said he has wanted to enter the church, but never did it because no one invited him, so we will be visiting him today in the chapel with a member to give him a tour!

This week during exchanges, Sister Guynn and I committed ourselves to having 20 contacts when we prayed. We asked God in exchange to bless us with those willing to accept the truth, and we saw so many miracles from doing this. We knocked on a door of an older kind of grouchy lady, and we thought she wasn´t going to be interested at first because she belonged to another religion. She told us about her husband, and she said he and her brothers had died a few years ago. I felt prompted to ask her if she knew where they were, and she said no... we then asked her if we could share the Plan of Salvation to answer her question, and she quickly let us in her house. We were both shocked. It felt like one of those stories from the Liahona (Ensign) that we think never happen, hahah! At the end of the lesson, she felt so much peace and love. I am SOO grateful for the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation. By making commitments to God through baptism and then making covenants with a worthy spouse, and KEEPING these covenants, we can live as eternal families in the presence of God one day. ITS SO PERFECT.

I love you all so much!! I hope you´ve all been eating tons of mashed potatoes and turkey and pumpkin pie for me!! Have a GREAT week!!
