Week #5 at the MTC
Hola Todos!!!
The last week here at the Lima Perú MTC has commenced. Counting down the days until Hermana Lawrence and I will both be heading out to Trujillo!! Elder Pullan and Elder Chapman in our district are also both getting ready to head out to Trujillo too!
This week I gave a 5 minute talk on repentance in Spanish during sacrament meeting. Four people are picked at random every Sunday to speak just moments beforehand, so it's kind of scary... Good thing I had prepared my talk and worked hard on it this week!
We also had the super amazing opportunity to go proselyting on Saturday. Hna. Lawrence and I worked along side Hermana Smith from Georgia. She only has a couple more months left to until she heads home! Our experiences were amazing and we truly saw miracles happen. I truly felt that God had prepared the hearts of the people He had put in our path. By the end of the 2 hours of proselyting, we were able to gather the contact information of 12 different people to have lessons in their homes. It was a miracle! Hermana Smith was super great to work with. As she was recording the contact information from people we talked to in Spanish on the street, she would nudge me and say: "you got this", and I would just start bearing my testimony in Spanish. It was a little nerve-racking and intimdating at first but when I started to speak, I could feel the Spirit so strongly to help me testify.
One of the girls we found on the street was in the middle of doing some type of construction work. After we introduced ourselves, she told us her name was "Honey", then she looked at me and winked and said "como Honé" since her name was spelled like mine: Doney. We all laughed and I fell in love with her sweet spirit. Before the activity, we were given folletos and tarjetas with pictures of Christ on them and also were given a Book of Mormon in Spanish. We were told we needed to get rid of EVERYTHING when we were proselyting. I felt prompted to give this Book of Mormon that had my testimony in Spanish inside it to Honey. I bore my testimony that I knew the book was true and that it had blessed me in my life. I told her it was another testament of Jesus Christ like the Bible, and that if she read it, she would have peace and comfort in her life. She listened to me so intently, and showed a sincere desire to read the book. One of her co-workers came over to us while we were talking and it turns out that he had been baptized a few months ago but wasn´t attending church very frequently. What a miracle!!! I felt the spirit so strong that whole day as we found more and more people. The people are so humble and willing to listen, and I am so excited to share this message of joy with the people in Trujillo! Also, Hermana Lawrence had an amazing experince and handed a Book of Mormon to a Jehovah´s witness who was stuggling with problems in her marriage and with her family. She showed a sincere desire to read the Book and find answers and comfort. So many miracles.
I have been playing a lot of piano lately, espeically for the native speakers during Corro. I´ve been able to play himnos during the music directing class for Spanish speakers which has been super good pratice for me, just listening.
We had some amazing devotionals this week by Elder Ballard and Elder Anderson. Elder Ballard said that once you have developed a love for work, you have become successful. As long as we're setting goals, working hard, praying and being obedient, we can expect miracles. I hope you all have a wonderful week and are praying to your Heavenly Father everyday. What a privilege it is to approach the throne of god at anytime and any place. Adios!
Hermana Doney
